TP Couture: Cashmere’s Student Design Competition

Three years ago, Scott Paper created a White Cashmere collection, working with top Canadian designers such as Hilary Radley, David Dixon and Marie Saint Pierre. This year, they took their white cashmere design idea and turned it into a competition for fashion students. The biggest challenge the students faced: using not 100% cashmere, but Cashmere toilet paper.

Eight months in the making—with over 200 students of design in Montreal and Toronto submitting sketches and prototypes of their garments—the competition came to a close recently with fashion shows in each city.

Eight finalists were chosen in Toronto and another eight in Montreal to proceed from prototype to high-fashion reality, and to have their designs showcased in a local fashion show. The winner in each city, announced immediately after the show, was chosen by a panel of industry experts and TV celebrities, and awarded a $2,500 bursary to further their education.
